PA 66

PA 66 (polyamide 66) is a strong and wear-resistant engineering plastic that combines high mechanical strength and stiffness with improved temperature resistance compared to standard polyamides.

PA 66

PA 66 (Polyamide 66) is a strong and wear-resistant engineering plastic known for its high mechanical performance and good temperature resistance. The material offers an excellent balance between strength, stiffness, and wear resistance, making it widely used in industrial and technical applications.

Compared to PA 6, PA 66 has higher stiffness and better temperature resistance, making it more suitable for applications with higher mechanical loads. The material retains its shape and properties better under load and is therefore a reliable choice for structural components.

PA 66 also has good sliding and wear properties and is resistant to oils, greases, and various chemicals. This makes it suitable for applications where friction, load, and durability play an important role. As with other polyamides, moisture absorption must be taken into account, as this can affect dimensional stability.

Properties and specifications

PA 66 offers a powerful combination of properties for technical applications:

  • High mechanical strength and stiffness
  • Better temperature resistance than PA 6
  • Good wear and sliding properties
  • Good creep resistance under long-term load
  • Good chemical resistance to oils and greases
  • Suitable for structural and dynamically loaded applications
  • Good dimensional stability when used correctly

Applications of PA66

PA66 stands out when strength, wear resistance, and temperature performance are more important than with standard PA6, but the extreme requirements of PA46 are not needed. The material is a suitable choice for structural and dynamically loaded components that remain under load for extended periods, thanks to its good creep resistance and retained stiffness. Due to its good chemical resistance to oils and greases, PA66 also performs well in industrial environments involving contact with lubricants.

Thanks to its higher stiffness and temperature resistance compared to PA6, PA66 is a suitable choice for heavier-duty applications, while still remaining a cost-effective solution within the range of engineering plastics.

Typical applications include:

  • Gears
  • Bearings and bearing bushings
  • Guides
  • Structural machine components
  • Machine components subjected to long-term loads

    Food grade certified plastics

Components in the food industry are exposed to cleaning agents and temperature fluctuations on a daily basis. Lakwijk selects materials that can withstand this, ranging from standard POM to high-performance PEEK for the most demanding conditions. This helps prevent deformation, wear, and unnecessary downtime.

    Custom material advice

Not every plastic behaves the same way under load, moisture, or heat. Lakwijk knows the properties of commonly used materials such as POM, PA, and HMPE, as well as high-performance plastics like PEEK, PAI, and PTFE. By combining this knowledge with your specific application, we advise a material that isn't just suitable on paper, but also performs well in practice.
