View on Plastics: scratch sensitivity
Plastics offer many advantages, but some considerations apply when selecting materials. Glass, metal and wood scratch easily — and some plastics do as well.
Crystal-clear plastics such as Plexiglas and polycarbonate are much stronger than glass but more prone to scratching. These plastics are normally supplied with protective film. Industrial plastics typically do not have protective film, as they are often machined later. Minor scratches from production or transport may be visible but are generally not problematic, provided the user is aware of them.
