PA 6

PA 6 (polyamide 6) is a versatile engineering plastic that combines good mechanical properties, toughness and wear resistance with broad applicability in industrial applications.

PA 6

PA 6 (Polyamide 6) is a versatile and widely used engineering plastic known for its strong mechanical properties and broad applicability. The material combines high strength and toughness with good wear resistance, making it a reliable choice for a wide range of industrial applications.

Thanks to its excellent balance of strength, flexibility, and impact resistance, PA 6 is particularly suitable for mechanically loaded components. Compared to other plastics, PA 6 offers a good combination of stiffness and damping, which contributes to a longer service life for components and less noise in moving systems.

PA 6 also has good sliding and wear properties, which is why it is often used in components where friction plays a role. The material is resistant to oils, greases, and various chemicals and performs well in industrial environments. As with all polyamides, it is important to take moisture absorption into account, as this can affect dimensional stability and mechanical properties.

Properties and specifications

PA 6 offers a strong combination of properties that make it suitable for a wide range of technical applications:

Applications of PA6

PA6 is widely used in machine components and structural applications where strength and wear resistance are important. Thanks to its good damping properties and impact resistance, the material is also often used as an alternative to metal, to save weight and reduce noise in moving systems. Its good chemical resistance to oils and greases also makes PA6 suitable for components that come into contact with lubricants or industrial fluids.

Do take care in applications with fluctuating humidity or high temperatures: moisture absorption can affect dimensional stability, and for heavier thermal loads, PA46 is often a more suitable choice. Thanks to its versatility and reliable performance, PA6 is a widely chosen material within sectors such as machine building, transport, automotive, and general industry.

Typical applications include:

  • Gears
  • Bearings and bearing bushings
  • Guides
  • Rollers
  • Conveyor components
  • Structural machine components replacing metal

    Food grade certified plastics

Components in the food industry are exposed to cleaning agents and temperature fluctuations on a daily basis. Lakwijk selects materials that can withstand this, ranging from standard POM to high-performance PEEK for the most demanding conditions. This helps prevent deformation, wear, and unnecessary downtime.

    Custom material advice

Not every plastic behaves the same way under load, moisture, or heat. Lakwijk knows the properties of commonly used materials such as POM, PA, and HMPE, as well as high-performance plastics like PEEK, PAI, and PTFE. By combining this knowledge with your specific application, we advise a material that isn't just suitable on paper, but also performs well in practice.
