Thinking along and providing technical advice
Lakwijk does not supply standard end products. We are a wholesaler of semi-finished plastics (sheet, rod, tube) and deliver fully customised solutions. We machine semi-finished materials according to drawing, entirely to the customer’s specifications. Whether it concerns single pieces, small batches or large series, it makes no difference.
We are often involved in the development phase of a project. At that stage, we can provide early advice based on our knowledge of plastics and our extensive practical experience. When choices regarding colour, dimensions or assembly techniques are still open, this advice can already lead to cost savings while keeping all possible options available.
Many factors play a role when giving material advice. Naturally, the requirements of the final product are central. What level of chemical resistance, wear resistance, impact strength, weight, smoothness, UV resistance or colour is needed? Which plastic fits these requirements best? Once the suitable materials are identified, we examine availability, machining possibilities, price levels and standard sizes. The goal is always to find the most economical solution within the given requirements. Not only the price per square or linear metre matters — dimensions and efficient material use are equally important. The cost must also be weighed against the product’s lifespan and even the lifespan of a potential counter component, as well as replacement costs.
Of course, the requirements of the application and the customer’s interest always come first. If metal, wood or glass is ultimately the better choice, we will advise exactly that. However, given the rapid developments in plastics, such advice is becoming increasingly rare. Lakwijk knows what plastics can achieve and what real-world experience teaches us. Thinking along with the customer and providing technical advice, both requested and unsolicited, is a fundamental and valuable part of our entire process and service.
