Polycarbonate (PC)
Polycarbonate is well known for its glass-like transparency, which makes it a popular alternative to glass, especially in applications where safety and durability are critical.
The material offers exceptional impact resistance and is therefore widely used in applications requiring strength and safety, such as bullet-resistant glazing, safety goggles and helmets. The melting point of polycarbonate typically ranges between 250 and 300°C, allowing it to withstand high temperatures without deforming or melting. This makes it suitable for applications such as automotive headlights and household appliances.
Polycarbonate has excellent optical clarity, comparable to glass. This makes it ideal for applications where visual clarity is essential, including eyewear lenses, displays and windows.
Despite its extreme strength, polycarbonate is flexible and can be formed into various shapes without breaking, making it easy to process. In addition, polycarbonate is lighter than glass, which makes it particularly suitable for weight-sensitive applications such as those in the aerospace and automotive industries.
Due to these properties, polycarbonate is widely used in a broad range of applications, including construction materials, electronics, medical equipment, automotive components and packaging.
