PTFE
Product Description
PTFE
PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene), also known under the brand name Teflon®, is a high-performance engineering plastic with exceptional properties in terms of chemical resistance, temperature resistance and friction. The material is known for its virtually inert behavior and is therefore widely used in environments where other plastics or metals fall short.
One of the most distinctive properties of PTFE is its extremely low coefficient of friction. This makes the material particularly suitable for applications where smooth movement, minimal resistance and reduced wear are essential. In addition, PTFE has a non-stick surface, preventing dirt, liquids and residues from adhering to it.
PTFE can withstand a wide temperature range and retains its functional properties even at elevated temperatures. Furthermore, the material offers outstanding resistance to virtually all chemicals, including aggressive acids, bases and solvents. This makes PTFE a popular choice in the chemical industry and other demanding sectors.
In addition to its chemical and thermal performance, PTFE also provides excellent electrical insulating properties. As a result, it is used not only in mechanical components but also in electrical and technical installations where reliability and safety are critical.
PTFE is mechanically less strong and rigid compared to some other engineering plastics. However, its unique combination of chemical inertness, temperature resistance and low friction makes it indispensable in applications where these properties are crucial.
Thanks to this combination of performance, durability and versatility, PTFE is widely used across a broad range of industrial applications.
Properties and specifications
PTFE offers a distinctive combination of properties that make it suitable for demanding technical applications:
- Very low coefficient of friction
- Excellent chemical resistance
- High temperature resistance
- Non-stick properties
- Good electrical insulation
- Very low moisture absorption
- Excellent UV and weather resistance
- Suitable for aggressive environments
Applications
PTFE is widely used in components where low friction, chemical resistance and temperature resistance are essential. Typical applications include seals, gaskets, slide bearings, bushings, guides and linings for components exposed to aggressive substances.
It is also commonly used in the chemical industry, food processing industry, pharmaceutical sector and electrical engineering. For insulating components, piping systems and applications where contamination or adhesion must be avoided, PTFE offers a reliable solution.
